The Frank Zujewski Dance Scholarship

There are limited scholarship opportunities being offered to dancers seeking to further their education and training. This has created a need in our own backyard for the professionals in our field to not only train and encourage, but to provide financial support for our upcoming artists. That is why Found Movement Group (in association with The Village) is offering the Frank Zujewski Dance Scholarship.

This scholarship scholarship is open to ALL non-professional dancers. This could include current students or teachers in training. Anyone who is not already receiving the majority of their income by teaching dance or performing is eligible. *Participants will be asked to attend the Found Movement Group workshop and Artist Showcase in Nashville, TN.

Awards

The Frank Zujewski Scholarship will be awarded to four dancers whose commitment, passion, and diverse talent demonstrate what a dancer needs to enter the professional world.  Dancers awarded the Frank Zujewski Scholarship will be receiving cash awards.

Recipients can use the scholarship award for college tuition if majoring or minoring in dance, summer workshops, intensives, conventions, or regular studio tuition and fees. The funds for the Frank Zujewski scholarship will come from the application fees collected from prospective dancers, and ticket sales for our annual Artist Showcase.

QUALIFYING APPLICANTS

Eligible dancers for the Frank Zujewski Scholarship are ages 7 and up, with the intention of a future career as a dance professional.

They are currently non-professional dancers who are still in training. They may be training to teach dance, but must not be receiving the majority of their income from teaching or performing dance.  We will award scholarships to two dancers ages 7-14, and two dancers ages 15 and up.

Current members of Found Movement Group and The Village companies are not eligible.

Selection Process

Dancers must fill out and submit the initial application, short answer questions and essay, with the application fee of $20.

Each dancer must then submit a 90 second solo of the style of their choosing choreographed by someone other than themselves. This solo, that is preformed, will be posted to a private account online and visible only to our judging panel.

This panel will be made up of six judges who are dance professionals from around the country but not local to the Nashville area. At this point the judges will make a preliminary cut for the Semi Finalist Round.

Semi Finalists will then be invited to attend a full day workshop hosted by Found Movement Group. Classes will be taught by local Nashville Area dance professionals, but video of the classes will be judged by our national panel. Semi Finalists will then submit another 90 second solo of a different style from the first, also choreographed by someone other than the dancer. The judging panel will then chose the top five finalists.

Those five will be asked to submit a video and perform a third and final 90 second solo of any style choreographed by the performer his/herself in the first act of “The Annual Artist Showcase”
